Future-proof education: A new vision of the future of higher education in a changing world
Leiden Teachers' Academy Education Festival 2023
Recent report from UNESCO shows that access to higher education since the end of Second World War has been an extraordinary growth story. Yet, while access to higher education is growing at a rapid pace all over the world, the higher education systems face unprecedented challenges. First, there is a significant gap between the skills employers seek and those students possess upon graduation. Second, digital and AI technologies are also transforming the world of work by replacing workers with robots. This means that today’s students must be prepared for an ever-changing future and be able to continually adapt as new occupations emerge. Finally, the COVID-19 pandemic has also accelerated the future-of-work trends and challenges. So, what skills, competences, and knowledge will today's students need to thrive in the future and shape their world? Will the jobs available today still be around in 2030? What are the skills that educators need to succeed in a rapidly changing world? How can the well-being of students and educators be nurtured? How can higher education institutions be structured to fit the future better from the perspectives of education leaders and management? We will address these challenges at the Leiden Teachers’ Academy Education Festival 2023, which will take place on May 30th 2023 at the Event and Convention Center Leiden (ECC Leiden). The festival is open to both teachers and students. It is designed to engage you, challenge you, inspire you, and help you change the way you think about education in the 21st century.
